Djibouti-Somalia power interconnect enters detailed design
A 400 kV line via Loyada could deliver cheap Ethiopian and geothermal power to Mogadishu by 2029, planners say.

Djibouti City — The Eastern Africa Power Pool has commissioned detailed engineering for a 400-kilovolt transmission line running from Djibouti through Loyada into Somalia, with a first energisation target of late 2029.
The route would complement Ethiopia's GERD exports and Djibouti's geothermal build-out at Fiale, and give Mogadishu utilities their first meaningful alternative to diesel generation.
Financing talks are focused on a blended package involving the African Development Bank, the World Bank and Gulf co-financiers.
