Berbera bets on Gulf shipping to rewire regional trade

Berbera — Cranes swing through the pre-dawn haze at a port that only a decade ago handled a fraction of today's throughput. The expansion, financed largely by DP World, has already begun to reshape freight routes into landlocked Ethiopia.

Officials say the next phase will focus on a free zone aimed at light manufacturing, a bet that regional trade patterns will keep shifting toward the western Gulf of Aden.
